Early seers and prophets
Elaborate systems of divination and fortune telling date back to ancient times. Perhaps the most widely-known system of early civilization fortune-telling was astrology. Practitioners believed the relative positions of celestial bodies could lend insight into people’s lives and even predict their future circumstances. Some fortune-tellers were said to be able to make predictions without the use of these elaborate systems (or in conjunction with them), through some sort of direct apprehension or vision of the future. These people were known as seers or prophets, and in later times as clairvoyants (French word meaning “clear sight” or “clear seeing”) and psychics.
One of the most enduring historical references to what some consider to be psychic ability is the prophecies of Michel de Nostredame (1503 – 1566), often latinized to Nostradamus, published during the French Renaissance period. Nostradamus was a French apothecary and seer who wrote collections of prophecies that have since become famous worldwide and have rarely been out of print since his death. He is best known for his book Les Propheties, the first edition of which appeared in 1555. Taken together, his written works are known to have contained at least 6,338 prophecies, as well as at least eleven annual calendars. Most of the prophecies deal with disasters, such as plagues, earthquakes, wars, floods, invasions, murders, droughts, and battles – albeit they are all undated.
Nostradamus is a controversial figure. His many enthusiasts, as well as the popular press, credit him with predicting many major world events. Interest in his work is still considerable, especially in the media and in popular culture.
In addition to the belief that some historical figures were endowed with a predisposition to psychic experiences, some psychic abilities were thought to be available to everyone on occasion. For example, the belief in prophetic dreams was common and persistent in many ancient cultures.
Present day clairvoyants
Today , the basics of a psychic reading is where a person with psychic abilities can tune into another person and give them guidance and information relating to issues going on their life.
A psychic reading can vary in many ways as psychics have different levels of skills they use to bring to a reading, therefore often no two readings are the same in style.
Some psychics work with tools such as Tarot or Angel cards, others with playing cards, runestones or crystals. The list of divination tools out there is endless.
Some psychics prefer to work without any tools and give their readings purely based on clairvoyance, clairaudient or clairsentient links. They are working with a higher vibration where they can pick up your vibration and link into your situation.
Clairvoyance means having the ability to “see” clearly. A psychic with clairvoyant abilities is able to see visions in their mind’s eye that link in to your situation. They may also see a certain colour and be able to give a highly effective reading on your mood and situation from your overall aura. They may be able to perfectly describe a certain person around you perfectly, height, eyes, hair, type of style, etc as seen through their clairvoyant eye. They can also give descriptions of people you will meet, which can be comforting for those looking for love.
Clairaudience means having the ability to “ hear” spirit. A psychic with clairaudient abilities can hear names whispered in their ear of significant people, can be given again descriptions, this time through hearing rather than seeing spirit. Again this is a very effective tool for picking up on overall descriptions, feelings from higher connections regarding, for example, the suitability of a potential loved one.
Clairsentience means having the ability to “sense” spirit. A psychic with clairsentient abilities has the ability to feel and pick up on certain conditions on the person they are reading. They are also able to give detailed accounts of condition a loved one has passed to spirit with. Sometimes clairsentient ability can be so strong a psychic has to physically pull back this powerful pull pressed upon them by spirit.
There are other “clair” abilities out there, each of them concentrating on a particular sense the psychic will be able to specialise in. These include Clairalience (smell), Clairgustance (taste) and Claircognizance (knowing).
A medium is able to connect with loved ones in spirit. All mediums are psychic, but not all psychics are mediums. This is because mediums are able to work with a different part of their higher senses to connect to spirit that not all psychics are able to do.
So, as you see, a variety of different methods are still used today to accurately predict the circumstances of events in peoples’ lives.
